Dream Jobs: How Bad Do You Want It? PDF Print E-mail

You wake up in the morning and you open your eyes and you ask yourself, "What can I do today to make my life better?"  Improving your life should start with how you will spend the rest of your day. No matter what your role is right now we all know how precious your time is and how time equates to money. Companies give you money for your precious time. You can spend your life however you choose so let's hope that you like what you do all day. What do you dream of? How would you spend your day if money was no issue? What did you dream of when you were a child?

What if I told you that the best way to get what you want is to ask for it? Do you believe me? If you call a company and ask them if they have a job for you with your skill set you will most likely get an interview. If you call a mentor and ask for advice on how to get in to their industry, they will meet with you. If you call a friend and ask them if they know someone who can help you get a job, they will help you. If you ask a past employer for a reference letter, they will provide one for you! I am telling you this because you can get your dream job at any time, but you just need to want it bad enough. Companies don't need employees they need passion.

Passion is perseverance. I have met an Optometrist who wants to be an Astronaut. He applied to NASA last year and made it to the final 100! He wanted it bad enough. I have met an athlete who wants to work for Nike and has applied 20 times before getting a response. I have met a recovered drug addict who wrote all the Top 40 Under 40 a letter asking for them to become his mentor. This man gets up at 4:00, works out until 5:30, reads until 7:00, has breakfast at 8:00 and then starts his day. I have met an Environmentalist who makes over $100,000 a year and is bored at his job because the company he works for will not allow him to make big decisions and implement his visions. I have met immigrants with PhD's who speak English fluently, who cannot get a job to save their life. All of these incredible people have tried so hard to follow their dreams, only to find huge challenges along their way.

Your dream job is attainable. It is only your limiting beliefs and fear that hold you back. You are an amazing person with so much to offer. Get creative and ask for what you want. Go ask someone today if they can help you achieve your goals and live your dream life. You would be amazed at how good it makes you feel and how willing people are to help you. The key question is, how bad do you want it?
