Job Description:                      Regional Development Manager (Western Region)

Reports to:                               National Director of Regional Development  Our Client is a National charitable fund raising organization.  Overview:  The Regional Development Manager is responsible for awareness raising, volunteer recruitment and funds in Western Canada.  Primary focus will be on the Calgary area.  As a results-driven professional, you know how to build relationships, inspire others and drive revenue. You generate leads, close deals and motivate others through research, collaboration, persistence and a proven ability to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.  You are a “self-motivated” individual who can work with little supervision and you are comfortable with tracking and reporting.   In this role, the successful candidate will:    
  • Work collaboratively with National Home Office staff
  • Develop and implement regional fundraising strategies in coordination with national priorities
  • Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness in the Western region
  • Recruit leadership volunteers to form sustainable active committees including effective succession planning
  • Analyze local market to identify opportunities and challenges; develop and implement strategies to ensure awareness, recruitment and fundraising goals are met
  • Contact, cultivate and solicit prospective volunteers, individual and corporate donors, and/or supporters transitioning them in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
  • Cultivate and steward new and existing national partnerships
  • Analyze trends in fundraising and volunteering, identifying opportunities and challenges and developing strategies to ensure goals are met
  • Work with Third Party Event organizers to ensure their needs are met, events are a success and repeat events are established
  • Ensure stewardship and effective relationship management in place for all contacts 
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of personnel, internally and externally, to effectively implement the strategies for development
  • Record and track all contacts and communications
  • Work with the National Executive Director, Director of Regional Development, Director of Fund Development and/or members of the National Board of Directors to close solicitations when appropriate
     Minimum Qualifications: 
  • University Degree or appropriate post-secondary education with work experience
  • Five to seven years successful experience in fundraising or direct outside sales resulting in high percentage close rates
  • Volunteer and/or people management experience a strong asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of major gift fundraising, donor recognition and stewardship or related client and funnel management experience. 
  • Experience with paid and/or unpaid employee recruitment, retention and recognition. 
  • Successful experience in making cold calls, as well as developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to effectively present the organization to external stakeholders
  • Strong planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple projects from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
  • Advanced computer skills; knowledge of CRM software (particularly Raiser’s Edge) an asset.
  • Positive and professional attitude, appearance and demeanour, and the ability to serve as a professional role model internally and in the community
  • Strong initiative and ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Possess strong business connections in Calgary area
  • Private home office
  • Travel as necessary across Canada, with a primary focus on Western Canada. Valid Driver’s Licence with appropriate business-level insurance coverage
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages an asset
    Responsibilities: Year #1
  • Increase awareness of our company in Calgary as measured by us in the Calgary media, attendance at Calgary awareness events, attendance at Calgary business functions, increase in appropriate applications from Calgary families, increase in appropriate Volunteer applications
  • Recruit effective volunteer leadership team for Calgary within 6 months.  Minimum of Chapter President, Chapter Secretary/Treasurer, Chapter Dream Fulfillment Chair, Chapter Fund Development Chair 
  • Recruit volunteers to support chapter within 12 months
  • Increase fundraising in Calgary.  Areas to include: 
    • Chapter and Third Party Events
    • Major Gifts ($1,000 Individual, $5,000 Corporate)
    • Individual & Corporate Giving
    • Employee Giving
    • Foundation Giving
    • Organizational Giving (Service Clubs, Associations)
    • Direct Marketing Campaigns
    • Tributes (In Memorium, In Honour, Wedding Dreams Program, etc)
    • Planned Giving

  • Maintain awareness in Calgary area.  Start to work develop awareness in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Edmonton.  Work with BC Lower Mainland and BC Interior chapters to improve awareness
  • Ensure Calgary chapter have a full volunteer leadership team
  • Start recruiting efforts for other Western chapters including leadership and chapter members
  • Increasing fundraising in other Western chapters. 
  • Year 2 details to be discussed with the incumbent
